Rain Doesn’t Damper Mexico’s Party

Mexico’s Jorge Vazquez (Yankees) hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Yaquis de Obregon a 6-3 victory over the Dominican Republic (Toros del Este), taking first place in the 2011 Caribbean World Series.
After nearly a two hour rain delay, the Dominican Republic jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Ruddy Yan (3-for-4) RBI single, scoring in Danny Richar. (Reds) Mexico answered back in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Karim Garcia (Orioles), who went 2-for-5 for the game.
The Dominican Republic led 3-1 in the bottom of the 5th after Esteban German scored on a wild pitch by Mexico pitcher Francisley Bueno. Mexico continued to persevere as they tied the game at 3 in the top of the eighth inning, scoring two runs on three hits.
Jorge Vazquez stepped up to the plate and smacked a two out two run homer to right center against Dominican Republic reliever Jose Rosario in the top of the ninth inning. Luis Ayala came in the bottom of the ninth for the save Alan Guerrero earned the win. The victory gave Mexico a 3-1 lead in the standings.
